Sumika ( proper spelling sumika ) is a pop rock band founded in 2013 from Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture .

history

Sumika was founded in May 2013 and has consisted of singer Kenta Kataoka, who also works as guitarist in the band, the second guitarist Junnosuke Kuroda, drummer Tomoyuki Arai and keyboardist Takayuki Ogawa. Keyboardist Ogawa was initially active as a guest musician for sumika for a year and a half. After his other band split up, he was integrated as a permanent member of sumika.

The quartet released the mini album Shinsekai Orichalcum in October of its founding year, before the second mini album I Co Y followed in November and entered the Japanese album charts at number 59 . The third mini album, Vital Apartment , which appeared in June 2015, also made it into the charts. After the release of the fourth mini album Answer Parade and the Sally EP, the group released their debut album Familia in 2017 , which started at number five and stayed in the best list for 41 weeks.

In the same year an EP was released with Fiction , the title track of which was used as the opening credits in the anime series No Cheats for Love . This was followed by the release of the single Fanfare / Shunkashūtō , the two songs of which were used in the anime film I want to eat your pancreas . The musicians also had a speaking role in the film.

At the beginning of 2019, the band announced their second album, which was released on March 13 and is entitled Chime . It contains the pieces Fanfare , Shunkashūtō and Himitsu , which can be heard in Kimi no Suizō o Tabetai . Also in March it was announced that sumika and her piece Equal could be heard in the opening credits of the anime series Mix, which has been broadcast since April 9 of the same year . The song was officially released on June 12, 2019 as a single under the title Equal / Traveling . In mid-December of the same year, the group released a music video for the song Higher Ground , which is the theme song for My Hero Academia - HEROES: RISING , the second movie in the My Hero Academia franchise. On March 4th, 2020 the band will release the Harmonize EP . At the end of the same month, sumika will go on an arena tour through Japan, which will be completed in early June 2020.
