Sun Chemical is a supplier to the graphics industry and, together with its parent company DIC KK, is the world's largest manufacturer of printing inks. The company's roots go back to 1818, but it has only existed in its current form since 1945. Sun Chemical has been part of the DIC Group since 1986. Outside of the printing industry, the company also supplies other branches of industry, such as the automotive and electronics industries, with resins and surface coatings.

The company operates European production sites in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as in France, Spain, Italy, Poland and Denmark.
