The 2000/01 season was the first season of the Suomi-sarja as the third highest Finnish ice hockey league .

mode

In the main round, the league was divided into two groups, each with eight teams, based on regional criteria. They each played 34 games. The four best-placed teams in each group qualified for the playoffs, the two finalists of which in turn qualified for the promotion round to the second-rate Mestis . The last placed in each group had to compete in the relegation for relegation.

Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.

Due to the direct comparison in the Mestis promotion round (4: 1, 4: 4) KalPa Kuopio was appointed master of the Suomi-sarja.

Relegation

Titaanit and RoKi-79 both achieved relegation relegation. Etelä-Portimo-72 Ylitornio moved up as a climber, as KoMu HT Mustasaari withdrew his team from the Suomi-sarja.
