Super prestige Pernod
The "Super Prestige Pernod" scoring was one year ranking in the professional - road cycling , which existed from 1961 to 1987, the most versatile and overall most successful cyclist to nominate. The most important one-day races and tours of the cycling season were included in the evaluation with different scores (depending on their importance). The competition was sponsored by the French pastis brand Pernod .
The Super Prestige Pernod was officially introduced in 1961 and thus continued a similar annual ranking, the so-called Challenge Desgrange-Colombo . This was held from 1948 to 1958, but was discontinued after disputes between the French and Italian organizers.
At the end of the 1980s, a ban on sports sponsorship through alcohol brands was passed in France . This regulation also included the Super Prestige Pernod rating, which was then abolished after the 1987 season. At the same time, the UCI world rankings had established itself as a general index for the classification of cyclists since 1984 . In 1989, the Cycling World Cup was also introduced, a series of the ten most important one-day races of the year.
The Super Prestige Pernod classification was naturally dominated by the best cyclists of their respective generation: Eddy Merckx won the annual classification - an impressive demonstration of the "Merckx era" - a total of seven times in a row from 1969 and 1975. The French Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault each won four times. In the last years of the ranking, two Irish dominated: Sean Kelly won from 1984 to 1986, Stephen Roche the last ranking in 1987.
A rating for women was introduced in 1985 and then won three times by Jeannie Longo .
