The 1996/97 season was the 23rd season of the Superliga , the highest Spanish ice hockey division . FC Barcelona became champions for the first time in the history of the club .
Main round
mode
In the main round, each of the six teams played a total of 15 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
