The 1980/81 season was the ninth season of the Superliga , the highest Spanish ice hockey division . CH Casco Viejo Bilbao became champions for the fourth time in the club's history , while CH Boadilla and CH Gel Barcelona were relegated to the 2nd division.

In the main round, each of the eight teams played a total of 14 games. The four best teams qualified for the final round, in which they played two more games against each opponent, with the results from the main round being adopted. The first place in the final round became champions. For the teams in places 5 to 8, the season ended after the main round, with the last two being relegated to the 2nd division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
