Sur Caribe comes from Santiago de Cuba . Its director is Ricardo Leyva Caballero , who also writes most of the songs himself. Rubert La Rosa Abreu plays the piano and Israel Cisneros Rodríguez contributes to the vocals. Cuban music is also influenced by Caribbean and Latin American rhythms.

background

Ricardo Caballero was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1959 and has been the leader of the band since joining. He also took piano lessons from Ignacio Cervantes. In search of a personal touch, Leyva changed the format of the band and put the dancers more at the center of their creative work. For the album Credenciales , for example, he wrote the piece of music Añoranza por la Conga . Sur Caribe consists of around 16 musicians, most of whom are young graduates from the city of Santiago's music schools.

Añoranza por la Conga (with the participation of the Comparsa Conga de Los Hoyos) from the album Credenciales was named “Music of the Year” in 2006 at “Cubadisco”, the annual festival of the Cuban state record industry.
