Surduk ( Serbian - Cyrillic Сурдук ; Hungarian Szurdok ) is a village in Vojvodina belonging to the Opština Stara Pazova . The place is about 40 km from Belgrade and 50 km from Novi Sad . The name Surduk is derived from Turkish and means "chasm" or "abyss", based on a small gorge near Surduk on the Danube . Surduk is one of the five places of the "Danube Bank Villages", to which the places Novi Banovci , Stari Banovci , Banovci-Dunav and Beliš belong.
At the 2002 census, the place had 1589 inhabitants. Mainly Serbs, but also some Roma, Croats, Slovaks and Hungarians live here. The average age is 43 years old.
A large observation tower, formerly a lighthouse, is an important landmark. Also worth seeing is the old Orthodox Church of St. Nikolai, which was built in 1816.
Surduk was a location for the film Black Cat, White Cat .
