Surrealistic Pillow is the second album by the American psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane . It is also the first with Grace Slick . The album, released in February 1967, contains the two most famous songs by Jefferson Airplane, Somebody to Love and White Rabbit . Surrealistic Pillow reached number 3 on the American Billboard charts.

Like the Byrds on their Fifth Dimension album , Jefferson Airplane fused psychedelic rock and folk . This was unique at the time and spawned several imitators over the next few years. Surrealistic Pillow was perhaps the first psychedelic blockbuster album.

CD versions
There are different versions of the album on CD . The first publication with the RCA logo on the cover and the track listing of the LP edition appeared in 1987. In 1995 RCA also released a gold CD of it, a remastered edition was released in 1996. In 2003 a remastered edition with 6 bonus tracks was released under the leadership of BMG Heritage:

Some sources suggest Garcia also starred on My Best Friend and Plastic Fantastic Lover , while others doubt it. In the credits, Garcia is only referred to as "Spiritual and musical adviser", since Grateful Dead were signed by Warner Brothers for their debut album The Grateful Dead before Surrealistic Pillow .
