Susan Anton
Susan Anton (* 12. October 1950 as Susan Ellen Anton in Oak Glen , California ) is an American singer and actress . She is best known in Europe for her role as Jackie Quinn in the Baywatch series .
Life
The first big success of her career was the first place in the Miss California election in 1969. This allowed her to take part in the Miss America election , where she was able to take third place. In the following years she modeled and made, among other things, advertising for the cigar brand Muriel.
In 1973, she starred in the dramatic TV movie The Great American Beauty Contest at the side of Farrah Fawcett and Robert Cummings . Numerous roles on television followed before she got her own television show in 1978 with country star Mel Tillis . Around the same time, Anton released her first single, Listen To My Smile, on Columbia Records . The ballad was not a success. The following year she got a leading role in the series Cliffhangers: Stop Susan Williams .
The film Golden Girl was to give Anton his big breakthrough in 1979. In it she plays Goldine Serafin, a sprint runner who was treated with growth hormone as a child. She wins three medals at the Moscow Olympics, but loses her father, health and lover. Since the Americans boycotted the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , the plot was out of date for the cinema and the film flopped. Originally, Golden Girl should have been planned as a mini-series for television. Nonetheless, the film brought Anton a nomination at the Golden Globes in the category of best young actress . The film credits include the song Slow Down I'll Find You , interpreted by Anton, written by Bill Conti .
In 1980 Anton signed a record deal with the small label Scotti Brothers . In the same year she had a big hit in the American charts: The duet Killin 'Time with Fred Knoblock reached # 28 in the pop and # 10 in the country charts. In 1981 Anton released the debut album of the same name, which was a commercial failure except for the Japanese market. The work, which includes pop, country and disco songs, includes a cover version of the Waylon-Jennings ballad Dreaming My Dreams With You . The dance-heavy song Foxy was successfully released as a single in Japan. In addition, a small number of Killin 'Time was re-released as a CD for the Japanese market during the 1980s .
Her singing career declined sharply in the following years: The single This Young Girl's Heart was only released in Japan, while the international song Jericho flopped in 1984 . Things looked changeable in the film sector: in 1982 she played in the barely noticed film Spring Fever at the side of the Canadian tennis star Carling Bassett . In 1984 she was in her biggest movie project On the Highway all hell is going on again. Both films, and Highway in particular , received scathing reviews and Anton was even nominated for the Golden Raspberry .
After that, Anton concentrated on numerous roles on television, played on Broadway (including Hurlyburly , All Shook Up and The Will Rodgers Follies ) and made a comeback in 1992 with the immensely successful series Baywatch . She was allowed to play as Jackie Quinn until 1994. Until then, she was only seen sporadically in cinema productions. For this she published her own fitness video ( Slimatics: Fat Burner Workout ) and stayed true to her musical ambitions.
From January 1996 to July 2000, she was Showmaster of the Great Radio City Music Hall Spectacular at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas, having previously toured the show. With over 5,000 screenings, this was one of the longest running productions in Las Vegas. To this day she appears regularly in Las Vegas, where she is still very much in demand as a singing star. In 2000 their second album, the live recording One Night , was released after 20 years . In 2006 she was hired for the musical Hairspray in Las Vegas .
From April to May 2018 she appeared in the musical Jerry's Girls at the Wick Theater in Boca Raton, Florida .
Private
Anton was married to Jack Stein from 1975 to 1979. It wasn't until 1992 that she married again: with actor, producer and screenwriter Jeff Lester , who also starred in Baywatch .

In the cartoon series The Simpsons , Susan Anton is referred to as an animal that Krusty constantly pats the clown in the groin area.
