Susanne Albers

Susanne Albers (born June 10, 1965 in Georgsmarienhütte ) is a German computer scientist and holder of the Chair XIV Theoretical Computer Science at the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

Albers studied mathematics , computer science and business administration at the University of Osnabrück from 1984 to 1990 . In 1993 she did her doctorate with a dissertation on online algorithms at the University of Saarland .

She worked at the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science until 1999 and made research visits to the USA, Japan and other European countries. In 1999 she completed her habilitation on efficient algorithms and was professor at the University of Dortmund from 1999 to 2001 . From 2001 to 2009 Albers was Professor of Computer Science at the University of Freiburg . From 2009 to 2013 she was a professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin . She has been a professor at the Technical University of Munich since 2013 .

Albers works in the field of design and analysis of algorithms , especially online and approximation algorithms. She also deals with algorithmic game theory and algorithms engineering .

In 1993 she received the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society , and in 2008 the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation , the German sponsorship award with the highest endowment of 2.5 million euros.

In 2010 Albers was accepted into the Leopoldina . In 2011 Albers was made a GI Fellow . Since 2016 she has been a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz .
