Life

Susanne Voigt was born in Dresden and attended business school. After 1945 she was a rubble woman . From 1950 to 1956 she studied sculpture at the art academy in Dresden under Walter Arnold , Heinz Lohmar and Erich Fraaß . She completed her studies with a diploma and had been a member of the VBKD since 1957 . In the early 1960s she turned away from socialist realism and turned to an increasingly abstract, expressive formal language in small sculptures and graphics. It was based on Ernst Barlach and Cubism . Since she received no more orders from the mid-1960s and was not exhibited, her sculptural and extensive graphic work remained unknown until the large work exhibition in Dresden Palace in 1977. To a large extent, she orientated herself on the basic figural form, which she translated into linear movements and expressive forms. At the price of isolation and lack of means, it remained true to its independent formal language. She worked as a freelance artist in Dresden-Plauen (Nöthnitzer Str. 22) for almost 50 years . She died in a nursing home in Dresden and was buried on May 13, 2016 in the Tolkewitz urn grove in Dresden-Tolkewitz .
