engine
The engine in the GN 250 comes from the off-road motorcycle Suzuki DR 250 and it was also available in the Suzuki GZ 250 (Marauder) and the Suzuki TU 250 X (Volty). However, ER has been changed in some points. The DR250 has a kick starter, older electrics and ignition. The later engines, starting with the GN 250, have (only) an electric starter, a modern three-phase 12V alternator and a more modern ignition system.
It is a single cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft and four valves. In the operating instructions engine oil of the classification API SE or SF with the viscosity SAE 10W40 is listed. The engine oil also lubricates the gearbox, so you should also pay attention to compliance with the "JASO MA" standard. In practice, mostly mineral or partially synthetic motor oil is used. There are no problems using better engine oil than API SF, this classification is "out of date". The oil change interval is given as 5000 kilometers or twelve months.

tank
The fuel tank holds 10.2 liters, of which 2 liters are in reserve. It drives around 230 kilometers to the reserve. To increase the range, you can try to fit a larger tank (from another motorcycle). The tank of the GN 125 fits on the GN 250, but is not larger. The tank of the TU 250 X fits on the GN 250, the tachometer shaft presses a little against the lower right part of the tank, as it has a different shape than the original tank. With a capacity of 12 liters, it holds 2 liters more. Tanks of the GZ 125 and GZ 250 fit, but the adjustment of the tank brackets (on the tank) and a shortening of the seat are necessary.
The tank lids of the Suzuki models GN 125, GZ 125, GZ 250, TU 125 and TU 250 also fit on the tank of the GN 250.
successor
The successor model was the Suzuki TU 250 X (Volty). The engine remained largely unchanged, there were modifications to other components. In terms of appearance and appearance, the TU 250 can be described as a "retro motorcycle". The TU 250 was not sold in large numbers in German-speaking countries. The TU 250 has been offered in a modified version in North America since 2009.
