description

The GN was built 400 by the company Suzuki in the years 1980 to 1982. It has a five-speed gearbox equipped and reaches with its 20 kW (27 hp) at 7,500 min -1 a top speed of almost 140 km / h. In addition to the usual instruments, the cockpit has a gear indicator. The engine originally comes from the Enduro Suzuki DR 400 / SP 400. There is an 18-inch wheel with disc brake at the front, a 16-inch wheel with drum brake at the rear, and power is transmitted by means of a chain.

To make it easier to start the engine with the kick starter, a decompression lever is attached to the handlebar, with the help of which you can comfortably move the piston into the starting position. Since the GN 400 starts up quite reliably, the effort is not too great. The single-cylinder engine causes strong vibrations and the seat height is relatively low. Due to its empty weight of only around 140 kg, the GN 400 is very manoeuvrable. In 1982 the purchase price was DM 2,999  .

Electrical equipment

Alternator of the GN 400 (open)

The electrical equipment is limited to the bare minimum. An electric starter was not provided due to the relatively weak alternator and the 6- volt electrical system. As a result, the lighting is very weak and prone to failure. The voltage stabilizer was also saved in the construction , so that higher voltages must be absorbed by the battery (6 V, 4 AH ). As a result, the water in the battery is used up after approx. 1,000 km and the battery must be replaced regularly. The electrical ignition, which is completely separate from the rest of the circuit, has proven to be very robust and maintenance-free.
