Some changes have been made due to changed noise and emissions standards
- lower manufacturing tolerances at Suzuki
- changed CDI
- Carburetor heating
- Change of the manifold system to stainless steel and change of the rear silencer from slip-on to bolt-on
- by changing the manifold another oil sump
- improved paint quality and a different paint job (frame is only painted in silver)
- longer gear ratio 42/14 (3,000) instead of 43/14 (3,071)
1996
- Rear brake system and swing arm modified; instead of a brake anchor plate, a brake anchor strut is used
Swiss model
The RF600R has been modified due to the stricter emission standards in Switzerland.
- modified inlet and outlet camshaft, which has 2 mm less stroke
- Suzuki PAIR system - which is an exhaust gas recirculation
- Mikuni BDST33 carburetor
- Power reduction to 58 kW / 79 PS
