Hydrology
On the west side of the saddle several small streams flow together and form the Malé Labe ( Little Elbe ), a left tributary of the Elbe . The western slope is drained via the Arnoldova strouha ( Arnold Graben ), the southeast slope via the Zinneckerova strouha . The latter flows into the Kotelsky potok, which also flows into the Little Elbe at Dolní Dvůr ( Niederhof ).
vegetation
The summit is covered by mountain pines . On the southern and western slopes, most of the forest was cut down with the exception of a few spruce trees. On the eastern slope there is the large meadow enclave Zadní Rennerovky ( Hintere Rennerbauden ), on the western slope the smaller Friesovy Boudy ( Friesbauden ) with a flora typical of mountain pastures .
tourism
On both alpine pastures - a common name in the Alpine region for meadow enclave - there are mining areas - i.e. mountain huts using the Alpine language. Here the physical well-being of the hikers is taken care of. Near the saddle of the Zadní Planina, at an altitude of 1345 meters, there is also the Chalupa na Rozcesti ( hut at the wayside ), which is also called "Potsdamer Platz" because of its great popularity with German tourists. From here hiking trails lead in all directions and make the place one of the most famous crossroads in the Giant Mountains.
▬ Following a red mark on the eastern slope of the Friesberg, a paved path leads from the Luční bouda ( meadow hut ) to Vrchlabí ( Hohenelbe ).
▬ A path with a yellow Signs connects the high-level Klínové Boudy ( wedge Bauden ) with Dolni Dvůr in the valley.
▬ A hiking trail with blue markings meanders down serpentines to Špindlerův Mlýn ( Spindleruv Mlyn ).
▬ Another hiking trail, marked in green, goes past the areas of Dvorské boudy ( Hofbauden ) and Friesbauden to Strážné.
