Svartlöga is an island in Blidö parish in Norrtälje municipality , in the outer Stockholm archipelago .

The highest point of Svartlöga is only 12 meters above sea level . The main island with the accompanying archipelago has a total area of 385 hectares or 3.85 km². The fairway around the island is very difficult to navigate. This is mainly due to the many shoals and rocks that are there. Due to regular visits from hunters and fishermen , the first residents settled here at the end of the 15th century and there were four small farms in the course of the 17th century. Svartlöga was one of the few islands in Roslagen , which quickly recovered from the Russian devastation in 1719, in the final phase of the Great Northern War .

In the middle of the 19th century there were about 50 cows and 10 horses on the island and in 1900 large parts of the island consisted of fields and meadows. The last animals disappeared in the 1960s. At the same time the last residents left the island. Since the year 2000 there is again a person who lives permanently on the island. In the middle of the 1990s, there was the smallest post office in the world in the village with its old sheds . This was later converted into a kiosk, which is only open in the summer months. There is also a chapel from 1916 and just to the west of the former development, a 5 hectare botanical garden for bushes and trees (Arboretum Lassas Hagar) . This was established in 1980. There are only two of these in the entire Stockholm archipelago.

There is no electricity on Svartlöga, but there is a fixed telephone connection to the mainland. Cell phones don't work well on the island.

The island is called at daily by the ferry company Waxholmsbolaget during the summer months . During the winter time the ferry only operates from Furusund on a weekly basis . If large quantities of ice drift one assumes airboat supplying the island.
