Swapna Barman (* 29. October 1996 in Jalpaiguri , West Bengal ) is an Indian athlete, referring to the heptathlon specializes.

Athletic career

Swapna Barman's first international competition was the 2014 Junior Asian Championships in Taipei , where she won the silver medal with 4962 points. At the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , she was fifth with 5178 points. In 2016 she finished eighth in the high jump at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha with 1.70 m and seventh in the pentathlon with 3285 points. A year later she was crowned continental champion at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar with a new high of 5942 points and therefore received a bye for the World Championships in London in August. There she reached 5431 points and finished 26th .

In 2018 she again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where she won the gold medal in front of the Chinese Wang Qingling with a new personal best of 6026 points . The following year she won the silver medal behind the Uzbek Yekaterina Voronina at the Asian Championships in Doha with 5993 points .

Personal

Barman was born with twelve toes and suffers from tight shoes during competitions as there are no custom-made shoes for her. She is a student teacher for physical education at the University of Calcutta .
