Yekaterina Aleksandrovna Voronina ( Russian Екатерина Александровна Воронина , Jekaterina Alexandrovna Voronina ; born February 16, 1992 in Tashkent ) is an Uzbek athlete who specializes in the heptathlon .

Athletic career

Yekaterina Voronina competed in her first international competition at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Bressanone , where she was eliminated from the qualification with a javelin throw of 46.13 m. In 2013 she first took part in the Asian Championships in Pune , India , where she won the silver medal behind the Thai Wassana Winatho with 5599 points . The following year she was fourth at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou with 3919 points. In autumn, she won the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, with 5912 points, ahead of the Chinese Wang Qingling and her compatriot Yuliya Tarasova . In 2015 she also won the gold medal at the Asian Championships in Wuhan with 5689 points and qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she finished 24th with 5704 points .

In 2016 she won the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha with a new Uzbek record of 4224 points ahead of Iranian Sepideh Tavakoli . During the outdoor season, she also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she could not finish her competition . After she had not competed in 2017, she took part again in the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , where she finished fifth with 5826 points. The following year she won the Asian Championships in Doha with an early world annual high of 6198 points and qualified for the World Championships in October, which will also take place in Qatar. There she took tenth place with 6099 points.

In 2011 and 2019, Voronina became the Uzbek heptathlon champion.
