Swartzia myrtifolia is a species in the genus Swartzia in the sub-family of papilionaceous (Faboideae). It iswidespreadin the Neotropics .

description

Swartzia myrtifolia grows as an evergreen small tree that reaches heights of about 6 to 12 meters or a little more. The stalked leaves are unpinnate with winged rachis and petiole. The round-pointed to rounded or pointed to pointed leaflets are about 5 to 7 centimeters long and ovate, obovate to elliptical. The leaf margins are whole and slightly wavy, the veins are pinnate with fine lateral nerves. The inflorescences are racemose . The hermaphrodite, yellowish flowers have a large, frilly petal. The chalice is four-lobed and bent back. There are many stamens , one group, with larger anthers, is longer and arching, the others, with smaller anthers, are arranged in bundles. The ovary is on a long, arching gynophore .

Orange, leathery, waxy and solitary, ellipsoidal and tipped legumes with a thickened belly seam are formed. The large, slightly kidney-shaped seeds are covered by an aril .

distribution

Swartzia myrtifolia is widespread in the Neotropics . In Central America it occurs in Guatemala and Honduras , and in South America it is found in Brazil , Colombia , Peru and Venezuela . It is currently unclear whether the original homeland extended over all the states mentioned or whether the range of this species was enlarged by humans.

Synonyms for Swartzia myrtifolia Sm. Are Riveria nitens Kunth , Tounatea myrtifolia (Sm.) Taub. and Tunatea myrtifolia (Sm.) Kuntze . Swartzia myrtifolia belongs to the Pteropodae series within the genus Swartzia .
