The African species Swartzia fistuloides Harms Swartzia madagascariensis (Taub.) Desv. have been in the newly established genus Bobgunnia J.H. Kirkbr . & Wiersema , since then all the remaining Swartzia species have been native to the Neotropic . According to Magalhães 2006, the two species should be returned to the genus Swartzia .
