Swissolar is the Swiss trade association for solar energy . He represents the interests of the solar energy industry and is committed to the expansion of solar energy.

history

Swissolar emerged in 2006 from the two associations SOLAR (Swiss Association for Solar Energy) and Swissolar (Working Group for Solar Energy). The SOLAR trade association was founded in Bern in 2002. It emerged from the German-speaking SOFAS (Solar Energy Association of Switzerland, founded in 1978) and the French-speaking PROMES (Association des professionnels Romands de l'énergie solaire, founded 1986). The Swissolar working group was founded in 1994 as an umbrella organization in the field of solar energy and comprised various associations from the fields of building technology, the energy industry and solar energy.

Organization and goals

Swissolar has around 500 members, including the largest companies active in the Swiss solar industry such as Trina Solar , Hoval , Basler & Hofmann, Ernst Schweizer Metallbau , Meyer Burger , Soltop, Helion Solar and Solstis. The association has an office in Zurich as well as a representation in French- and Italian-speaking Switzerland. Its president is Roger Nordmann , National Councilor and parliamentary group president of the SP parliamentary group in the Federal Assembly . Swissolar is officially supported by EnergieSchweiz, the federal program for renewable energies.

The association pursues the following goals:

  • Expansion of solar energy in all its areas of application. These include photovoltaics , solar heat and solar architecture .
  • Improvement of the political framework and technological requirements for the use of solar energy.
  • Informing the population about the possible uses of solar energy.
  • Supporting its members in their market presence.
  • Promotion of measures for quality assurance and for training and further education in the field of solar energy.

activity

Swissolar pursues its political goals through lobbying . In particular, attempts are being made to influence the legislative process. In 2013, Swissolar played a key role in preventing the Federal Council from cutting funding for renewable energies. In addition, the association is affiliated with the Pro Solar association, which campaigns and petitions for the expansion of solar energy. Among other things, Pro Solar, together with WWF and Greenpeace, called in a petition in 2014 for the introduction of a tax on "dirty electricity" from fossil energy sources. In 2015, the association collected 10,000 signatures in 10 days against the cut in funding for renewable energies.

To support its members, the association operates a platform for specialist information, offers training and further education courses and organizes specialist conferences. In order to ensure quality in the industry, he operates the "Solarprofi" label. Swissolar is also a member of the Swiss Climate Alliance .
