Sydney Taylor Book Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sydney Taylor Book Award is a literary prize that the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) has presented since 1968.

Between 1968 and 1980 one work was awarded annually. In 1981 the categories “Books for Younger Readers” and “Books for Older Readers” were introduced and two works were honored. In 2007 the “Teens” division was added. Since 1985 several “remarkable books” have been named in addition to the award winners. In addition, a prize is awarded at irregular intervals for the complete works of an author. The award, dedicated to the American writer Sydney Taylor (1904–1978), is given for books on Jewish life and culture.
