Sylvia Eichner

Sylvia Eichner (born June 6, 1957 in Dresden ) is a former swimmer who competed for the GDR .

Career

Sylvia Eichner from SC Einheit Dresden took third place behind Gabriele Wetzko and Andrea Eife at the GDR championships in 1972 over 100 meters freestyle . With the Dresden freestyle relay, she won the GDR title. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Eichner was eliminated from the 100 meter freestyle in the semifinals. With the GDR freestyle relay consisting of Andrea Eife, Sylvia Eichner, Elke Sehmisch and Kornelia Ender , she won the first run in the world record time of 3: 58.11 minutes. In the final, Gabriele Wetzko swam for Sylvia Eichner. Although the GDR season improved to 3: 55.55 min in the final, Wetzko, Eife, Sehmisch and Ender only won silver behind the US season.

At the GDR championships in 1973 , Eichner took third place over 100 meters back and won the Dresden layer relay. At the first swimming world championships in 1973 in Belgrade, the GDR swimmers were able to return the favor for the relay defeat in 1972. The GDR freestyle relay with Kornelia Ender, Andrea Eife, Andrea Hübner and Sylvia Eichner won the title in 3: 52.45 minutes ahead of the US swimmers.
