Andrea Eife (born April 12, 1956 in Leipzig , after marrying Andrea Gemsleben ) is a former swimmer who competed for the GDR .

Career

Andrea Eife came to SC Dynamo Berlin in 1966 . She won the 200 meter and 400 meter freestyle at the GDR championships in 1972 . In 1973 she defended both titles and also won the 200 meter back championship. She won her last GDR championship title in 1975 with the freestyle relay.

At the 1972 Olympic Games , she reached the finals in three disciplines. She finished sixth in the 100 meter freestyle and fifth in the 200 meter freestyle. The 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay made up of Gabriele Wetzko , Andrea Eife, Elke Sehmisch and Kornelia Ender won the silver medal behind the US relay.

The first swimming world championships in 1973 in Belgrade were even more successful for Andrea Eife. In the 200 meter freestyle she won the bronze medal behind the US swimmers Keena Rothhammer and Shirley Babashoff . The GDR freestyle relay with Kornelia Ender, Andrea Eife, Andrea Hübner and Sylvia Eichner won the title ahead of the US swimmers. At the 1974 European Swimming Championships , Kornelia Ender won the 200 meter freestyle ahead of Enith Brigitha and Andrea Eife from the Netherlands . The GDR freestyle relay with Kornelia Ender, Angela Franke , Andrea Hübner and Andrea Eife won the title ahead of the Dutch women.

Andrea Eife studied law and worked as legal counsel at VEB Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke Hans Beimler Hennigsdorf . After the fall of the Wall , the business was wound up. Andrea Gemsleben, as she was called after her marriage, moved with her husband to Luxembourg and worked there as a swimming trainer.
