Sylvia Plischke (born July 20, 1977 in Plzeň , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Austrian tennis player .

life and career

Her parents, Lubomir and Alena Plischke, moved to Austria when Sylvia was six years old. Her mother was also an athlete and represented Czechoslovakia in the 1972 Olympic Games in high jump.

Sylvia Plischke played for Austria in the Fed Cup (record: five wins, six defeats) and at the Olympic Games. She won a double title on the WTA Tour and had her best place in the individual world rankings when she reached the quarter-finals in 1999 at the French Open with 27th place .

She celebrated the tournament victory in doubles with her doubles partner Henrieta Nagyová in Kuala Lumpur . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, she lost to Rita Grande 2: 6, 2: 6 in round one .

Plischke ended her professional career in 2002 after ten years in order to take up a degree in "Business Management in the Tourism and Leisure Industry" at the Management Center Innsbruck. She completed her studies in 2006 and started working in the field of marketing & consulting. She lives in Prague and Innsbruck and still plays tennis in her free time.
