Sylvie Durrer

Sylvie Durrer (born June 18, 1960 ) is a Swiss linguist . She has been director of the Federal Office for Equality between Women and Men since 2010 .

Career

Sylvie Durrer studied French linguistics at the Université de Lausanne from 1979 and received her doctorate in 1992 . From 1992 to 1996 she worked as an assistant, 1996 to 2001 as assistant professor for French linguistics at the Romance Department of the University of Zurich , and from 2001 to 2006 at the University of Lausanne.

From 2001 to 2004, she was co-director of the Graduate School for Gender Studies at the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne. From 2006 to 2011 she headed the Bureau de l'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes ( German  office for equality between women and men ) of the canton of Vaud .

Sylvie Durrer was appointed director of the Federal Office for Equality between Women and Men (EBG) on October 20, 2010 at the request of Federal Councilor Didier Burkhalter , Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs. She succeeded Patricia Schulz, who had led the EBG since 1994. She represents the Confederation on the board of the Swiss Conference of Equal Opportunities Commissioners (SKG). Sylvie Durrer also heads various commissions on domestic violence issues at cantonal and intercantonal level.

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations , the United Nations Sylvie Durrer to the board of the Research Institute for Social Development ( UNRISD appointed). Since 2010 she has also represented Switzerland at the meetings of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and is chair of the steering committee of the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC), an international coalition that advocates equal pay for women and men worldwide (equal pay Wages for equal work).

Life

Silvie Durrer has three children. When her daughter was born in 1991 , she was not given maternity leave as an assistant at the University of Lausanne because her employment contract at the time only ran for eight and a half months - two months less than necessary to be able to assert the claim.

She has in-depth knowledge of gender and equality policy issues, especially in the areas of employment, education and the family.
