Symphony of Enchanted Lands is the second studio album by the Italian power / symphonic metal band Rhapsody (now Rhapsody of Fire ).
Text and concept
Symphony of Enchanted Lands is the second concept album in the Emerald Sword saga pentalogy. The story of the hymn and accompanying texts in the booklet is entirely devoted to the search for the three keys of wisdom. These keys are required to open the gates to a hidden valley that houses a magical wonder weapon, the Emerald Sword . Only with this it should be possible for the warrior of the ice to victoriously end an ongoing war against demons from the underworld. On the way to obtaining the keys, the warrior may have to a. look in the mirror of his deepest fears and fight a dragon.
The single Emerald Sword was released for the album . The album itself appeared u. a. as the most elaborate box of the band with a circulation of 5,000. In addition to the album, the CD contains a sword pendant, a dragon pin as well as tattoos and stickers with the band logo.
Music genre
The band combines fast Power Metal with classical instruments, choirs and Fabio Liones characteristic vocals and thus continues their typical style. Wisdom of the Kings has a more classic coloring thanks to the classical string instruments used dominantly in places , Heroes of the Lost Valley has an atmosphere similar to baroque music thanks to the use of harpsichord and flute . The actual symphonic phase of the band begins with Symphony of Enchanted Lands . Sargon the Terrible from The Metal Crypt criticizes, however, that the symphonic passages seem more like film music that is only added to the actual songs and not integral.
Reviews
Alex from The Metal Observer ended his review with the sentence: "Who can only slightly identify with this style and does not own this album cannot be really called a fan!".
Sargon the Terrible criticized that the use of keyboards did not turn the musicians into classical composers, the narrative passages were "incredibly boring" and the album did not contain enough metal . He likes the idea of Rhapsody, but doesn't know of any album that meets their own standards.
