Synagogue (Bad Neuenahr)
The synagogue in Bad Neuenahr , a district of the city of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler , was built in 1901. It was located at today's Wadenheimer Straße 8.
history
In Wadenheim , a district of Bad Neuenahr founded in 1875, Jews had lived since the 16th century. A Hirz of Jud is attested around 1629 . In the 18th century, some Jewish people were able to settle in neighboring Heimersheim . After the Jewish community of Bad Neuenahr rented a prayer room for their church service towards the end of the 19th century, the synagogue was built in 1901 according to plans by the Neuenahr contractor and architect Heinrich Schmitz. During the pogrom on November 10, 1938 , the synagogue was devastated and burned down. The street where the synagogue stood was called Tempelstrasse since 1901 and was renamed Wadenheimer Strasse on December 20, 1938 at the request of the Thür local group leader .
architecture
Just like the synagogue in Ahrweiler , the synagogue in Bad Neuenahr had orientalizing stylistic elements. The portal was spanned by a semicircular skylight and above it was an oculus . Portal and oculus were framed by a decorative frame. To the left of the entrance facade was a small extension with the entrance for the women, who could directly reach the women's gallery from here . The gabled roof was on all four corners and on the two rooftops with acroteria provided. There were four arched windows on the south facade and three arched windows on the north side. In contrast to the synagogue in Ahrweiler, the synagogue in Neuenahr was plastered and painted lightly.
