Synagogue (Nonnenweier)
The synagogue in Nonnenweier , a district of the Schwanau community in the Ortenau district in Baden-Württemberg , was probably built in the 18th century. The synagogue was at Schmidtenstrasse 10.
history
A synagogue in Nonnenweier is first reported in 1771. In 1806 the building was renovated. In 1865 the synagogue was rebuilt. It was almemor abolished and established fixed benches. In addition, new windows and a new Torah shrine were installed.
During the November pogrom in 1938 , the synagogue in Nonnenweier was destroyed by arson, and the square was later leveled.
Commemoration
Opposite the location of the former synagogue, a memorial stone reminds of the synagogue building.
