The synagogue in Cuneo , a city in the northern Italian region of Piedmont , was built in 1611. The baroque synagogue is located at Contrada Mondovì 18, in the center of the former Jewish ghetto . Today it is only used on high public holidays.

description

In 1884 the synagogue was rebuilt for modern needs and received the current facade, which is framed by two pilasters . Two arched portals lead into the interior. A cornice rests on the pilasters and separates the two upper floors. The three arched windows on the second floor give the women's gallery daylight. Behind the right entrance door, a staircase leads to the first floor, where the religion classroom is located.

Inside, the simple bima stands directly in front of the ornate Torah shrine from the 17th century, as is the tradition for Sephardic synagogues. The menorah and cult instruments are depicted on the doors of the shrine . To the left of the Torah shrine is a raised pulpit .
