Synagogue (Dühren)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The synagogue in Dühren , a district of Sinsheim in the Rhein-Neckar district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1828/29. The profaned synagogue was in the street Zum Gässel . It was demolished in July 2015, with the bars marked, with the potential to rebuild the building elsewhere.

history

After the dissolution of the Jewish community in Dühren in 1877, the synagogue was publicly auctioned on November 12, 1877. The sale brought in 677 marks 7 pfennigs, which went to the Israelite religious and school fund in Karlsruhe.

The synagogue building then served as a hay store, later also as a garage. In the 1990s, almost all of the old houses around the synagogue were demolished, including the house of the Jewish teacher right next to the synagogue building. The State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Baden-Württemberg had already declared the Dühren synagogue to be worth preserving in 1982.

Efforts were made to preserve the former synagogue until 2015. However, due to years of neglect, the building fell into disrepair. Finally, the regional council approved the demolition.
