Synagogue in Nancy

The synagogue in Nancy , a city in eastern France and capital of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region , was built in 1787/88. The synagogue at 17, boulevard Joffre, has been classified as a Monument historique since 1984 .

history

The Jewish community in Nancy had the building built according to plans by the architect Augustin Charles Piroux (1749–1805), who also built the synagogue in Lunéville . In the years 1841 and 1861 the synagogue was enlarged and rebuilt. In 1935, when the Boulevard Joffre was laid out, it received a new facade under the direction of the architect Alfred Thomas.

The round gable is crowned by the tablets of the law .

organ

In the synagogue there is an organ that was built in 1948 by the organ builder Roethinger. The instrument has 11 stops on two manuals and a pedal. The actions are electro-pneumatic.
