history

Thanks to the support of the banker Löb Kent, who came from Niederwerrn, a representative building could be built. The synagogue building was redesigned in 1885 and repaired in 1913.

During the November pogrom in 1938 the building was set on fire and burned down. A little later, the political community bought the synagogue as well as the Jewish school and community center.

In 1958 the former synagogue was converted into a cinema. Until 1987 it served as a warehouse for a factory and as a training room for the Chamber of Crafts . From 1999 to 2000 the synagogue building was converted into a community library and opened on January 19, 2001.

The two-storey eaves mansard - hipped roof building with arched windows has a corner stone with the Hebrew year 5546 (1785/86).
