The distribution area adjoins that of the very similar Syncrossus berdmorei to the east . The kind was named after the Dutch biologistLieven Ferdinand de Beaufort (1879–1968).

features

Beaufort's loach grows to around 19 to 20 cm long, with the males remaining slightly smaller. The body is elongated, laterally flattened and almost the same height along its entire length. The dorsal fin begins just before the pelvic fins.

Their basic color is variable, brownish, gray-green or yellowish and, depending on the environment, more or less light. On each side of the head there are three longitudinal stripes, one on the top of the head, one through the eye and one below the eye. The flanks are patterned by 9 to 12 faint, bluish black horizontal stripes, which can also be missing. Furthermore, there are several longitudinal rows of dark spots on the sides of the body. The dorsal and caudal fins are more or less orange and have horizontal rows of dots. The anal fin, chest and pelvic fins are yellowish. There are some dark spots at the base of the anal fin. The barbels on the upper jaw are blackish. External gender differences are not known.

Aquaristics

Beaufort's loach is shy and jumpy in the aquarium. Because of its expected final size and its aggressiveness towards other fish, it is not very suitable as an ornamental fish. It has not yet been bred. All animals traded are wild-caught .
