The scilla-leaved ginger orchid ( Roscoea scillifolia ) is a species of the genus Roscoea in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae).
description
The scilla-leaved ginger orchid is a perennial herbaceous plant that usually reaches heights of 10 to 27 (6 to 37) centimeters. It forms a vertical rhizome with tuber roots.
The bracts measure 2.6 to 5 × 1 to 2.3 centimeters, are as long as the calyx or longer and end bluntly or pointed. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and threefold. The corolla tube is 1.6 to 3 inches long. The lip measures 1.3 to 2 × 0.8 to 1.2 centimeters. The Staminodien are elliptical to obovate wrong with a length from 1 to 1.4 centimeters and a width of 0.3 to 0.5 centimeters. The flowers are deep purple to pink or white. The flowering period extends from June to September.
The pink-flowered form reaches heights of 15 to 20 centimeters and blooms from August to September, the dark purple 25 to 30 centimeters and blooms from June to July.
Occurrence
The scilla-leaved ginger orchid occurs in south-western China in northern and western Yunnan on moist, open, stony mountain meadows at altitudes of 2700 to 3400 meters.

The scilla-leaved ginger orchid is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. It has been in culture since about 1912.
