Szymon Walków (born September 22, 1995 in Wroclaw ) is a Polish tennis player .

Career

Walków played its first professional tournaments in 2013. In the beginning he was active on the third-class ITF Future Tour , although he did not make it past the second round. He made his first appearance on the second-rate ATP Challenger Tour in 2015 at his home tournament in Wroclaw , when he was in the main draw of the double competition thanks to a wildcard . He lost the duel against Frank Dancevic and Andriej Kapaś with his partner Mateusz Terczynski in straight sets. In September of the same year he received another wildcard for the double field in Szczecin , but was eliminated again in the first round. He finished the year beyond the top 1000 in the world rankings in both singles and doubles .

In the following years, Walków made progress especially in doubles, winning five futures titles in 2016 and 2017 and making it into the quarter-finals for the first time on the Challenger Tour in Poznan . In the individual, his performance stagnated and he was often eliminated in the first or second round in future tournaments and did not qualify for a main field on the Challenger Tour. He took both the individual and in the double at the Summer Universiade in 2017 in part, but was eliminated in the second round in both competitions.

In 2018 he made a breakthrough in doubles. He started the year in 408th place and continued to improve through success on the Future Tour. In June he had his first big success on the Challenger Tour in Poznan . Together with Mateusz Kowalczyk , he received a wildcard from the organizers for the double field and moved into the final. There he met the seeded pairing Attila Balázs and Andrea Vavassori , whom he beat in three sets and was able to celebrate his first title win at Challengers. A month later he won the tournament in Sopot again together with Kowalczyk . Afterwards he was in the top 200 in the world for the first time with 192th place. His best placement is 166th place, which he achieved after winning the title in Andria at the end of November.
