Téboursouk is a city in northern Tunisia , about 100 kilometers southwest of Tunis . It belongs to the Beja governorate and has about 11,000 inhabitants. The city lies on the slopes of a range of hills on the edge of the river plain of the Khalled in a landscape characterized by olive groves and meadows.
history
The history of Téboursouk goes back to antiquity , when the city was known as Thubursicum Bure since Roman times , but was probably always overshadowed by the nearby Thuggas . It was not until the Byzantine period in the 6th century AD that its importance increased when the city, like many others in the region, was developed into a fortress . The remains of these walls still partially surround the old town and contain traces of the older Roman city such as a half-buried archway integrated into the walls. In the Middle Ages it was largely insignificant.
During the time of the French protectorate in Tunisia , Téboursouk was granted city rights in 1904 .
