Tamra ( Hebrew טמרה, Arabic طمرة, DMG Ṭamra ) is a city in the northern district of Israel . It is in Galilee ; Haifa and Akko are each about 20 kilometers away. In 2018, it had a population of 33,851 people, 99.6% of whom were Arab Israelis .

As in many Arab cities of this type in Israel , around 70% of the people are under 40 years of age. Tamra has a young mayor and a young councilor, Moussa Abu Rumi; Five parties are represented in the municipal council. In view of the demographic composition of the population, one of the main tasks is to create good educational opportunities; Further important political goals are the lowering of the high unemployment rate through the targeted establishment of an environmentally friendly industry, the further development of tourism and the expansion of agricultural land. A former representative of the Arab minority in the Israeli parliament , Muhamad Kanan , lives in Tamra.
