The gymnastics club "Riemann von 1821" Eutin is a sports club from the East Holstein district town of Eutin . The club gained regional fame through its first men's handball team, played several years in the Regional and both as an independent association and as part of the SG Riemann / HTC Eutin at DHB Cup participated.

history

The club was founded in 1880 as a men's gymnastics club from 1880 Eutin and referred to the tradition of the first group of students founded by Heinrich Arminius Riemann in Eutin, who regularly met for gymnastics exercises. Accordingly, on December 28, 1932, the name was changed to the gymnastics club "Riemann von 1821" Eutin. Previously, the club had taken over the members of the dissolved women's gymnastics club (1920) and a military sports club (early 1930s).

At the German Gymnastics Festival in Munich in 1958, he was recognized as one of the four oldest gymnastics clubs in Germany.

Handball

While local rivals PSV Eutin provided the most successful handball division in the city in the early post-war period , TS Riemann took on this role from the 80s. The youth department was already one of the most successful in the country at the end of the 1970s and was able to win several state championships, two northern German championships and, with the male youth C in 1980, also a German championship. The men's team rose to the Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga in 1985 and was able to achieve the championship and the associated promotion to the regional league there just four years later. 1986/87 they also qualified for the first time for the DHB Cup and lost there in the first round to TSV Germania Tetenhusen with 28:29 after extra time.

In the Regionalliga Nord, the Eutiners initially established themselves in the midfield, before they had to move to the Regionalliga Nordost after the HVSH joined the NOHV . In the league, which was initially played in two seasons after reunification, TS Riemann placed in the upper midfield, but could not qualify for the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga. Due to concerns about young talent, the TSR merged with HTC Eutin in 1994 to form SG Riemann / HTC Eutin.

After the syndicate was dissolved, the TS Riemann handball players returned to their old name, but were temporarily no longer represented in the game in the mid-2000s. After the gymnastics association formed the HSG Eutin together with Eutin 08 from 2012 to 2014 , the two clubs merged with the TSV Malente and the TSV Dörfergemeinschaft to form the HSG Holsteinische Schweiz in 2014 .
