The men's handball Oberliga Schleswig-Holstein (until 1966: Landesliga Schleswig-Holstein ) was the top division of the Schleswig-Holstein handball association from 1952 to 2010 and, until the introduction of the handball Bundesliga in 1966, it was also the highest possible division for indoor handball -Teams from the association area.
The league was founded as a national league for the 1952/53 season and initially comprised eight teams. With the introduction of the Bundesliga, for which Schleswig-Holstein runners-up VfL Bad Schwartau qualified, the division was only located at the second highest league level from 1966/67. In 1969 it became third class with the introduction of the regional league, and fourth class in 1981 with the introduction of the 2nd handball league .
As a result of the league structural reform of the DHB for the 2010/11 season, the league became fifth class as the Schleswig-Holstein League, with the introduction of the Hamburg-Schleswig-Holstein Handball Oberliga .
