Flensburg 08 (officially: Flensburger Sportvereinigung von 1908 eV ) was a sports club from Flensburg . The club was founded on April 14, 1908 as 1. Flensburger FC 08 and had around 600 members in the football , tennis and swimming departments . The club colors were blue and yellow.

Flensburg 08 became famous for its football department, whose first team played for one year in the third-class Oberliga Nord and four years in the fourth-class Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein division. Most recently, the first team to play their home games in the Flensburg Stadium in the Fruerlund district competed in the fifth-rate Schleswig-Holstein League .

On July 1, 2017, the association was dissolved as part of a merger for inclusion . The members joined the ETSV Weiche Flensburg , which was renamed SC Weiche Flensburg 08 .

history

The establishment of 1. Flensburger FC 08 was apparently preceded by a merger of the wild clubs Flensburger FC and FC Union Flensburg . On December 9, 1925, the club merged with the Sportfreunde Verein Deutscher Geher Flensburg to form SV Eintracht Flensburg . The merger partner was formed the year before through the merger of Sportfreunde Flensburg , which split off on October 27, 1923 as part of the clean divorce from the Flensburger MTV , with the Verein Deutscher Geher . On January 10, 1935, SV Eintracht Flensburg merged with VfL Nordmark Flensburg to form Flensburger Sportvereinigung 08. Former members of VfL Nordmark split off again on April 10, 1948 and merged with VfR Flensburg to form VfR Nordmark Flensburg . This resulted in the TSB Flensburg on April 1, 1973 .

In the mid-1920s , Eintracht Flensburg became the city's leading football club. In 1925, after a 2: 4 defeat against Eintracht Kiel , the team missed the leap into the first-class Schleswig-Holstein district league . A year later, the rise succeeded and the Eintracht remained first class until the introduction of the Gauligen in 1933. In 1937, the team, now known as Flensburg 08, missed the qualification for the promotion round to Gauliga Nordmark after a deciding defeat against Schleswig 06 . Also in the 1943/44 season the promotion round to Gauliga Schleswig-Holstein was missed by a hair's breadth: Eckernförder SV was equal on points with 08 only because of the better goal difference in the district league season “B” - it was only the third home game of ESV in the league round scored against 08 (5: 2) - the two before (2: 2 and 3: 3) had been canceled.

After the Second World War , the 08ers qualified for the Schleswig-Holstein regional championship in 1946/47 , became runner -up in the northern regional league in 1947/48, and in 1948 they were one of the founding members of the single-track Schleswig-Holstein regional league , where the team was mostly in the midfield was found. The greatest success was the fifth place in the 1952/53 season. Five years later, Flensburg won the SHFV Cup for the first time with a 4-2 victory over Rot-Weiß Moisling and was eliminated in the first round of the North German Cup against VfR Neumünster . After many years in midfield, fifth place in the national league was again achieved in 1969.

In 1973, the 08er became national champions of Schleswig-Holstein for the first time and moved into the promotion round to the Regionalliga Nord . There the 08ers welcomed 8,000 spectators at the game against Concordia Hamburg , but lost 2: 4. As third in the table, the promotion was missed. A year later, the Flensburg team defended their national championship title due to the better goal difference against VfR Neumünster and qualified for the newly created Oberliga Nord. At the German amateur championship , the 08ers failed in the first round at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . The Oberliga season 1974/75 ended the Flensburg in fourth from last place. Since the HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst , Olympia Wilhelmshaven and VfL Wolfsburg, three North German clubs from the 2nd Bundesliga North had to relegate the 08ers back to the Association League. In 1977, the team reached as runners behind VfB Lübeck the promotion round where the 08er with a point behind VfL Pinneberg missed the comeback.

Three years later, the Flensburg team went into the association league season as favorites to relegate to the regional league as bottom after internal turbulence . There they got into trouble again and in 1982 could barely celebrate relegation. After the runner-up in 1986, three years later, with one point ahead of the Rendsburger TSV, they were promoted to the association league. There the 08s took over the local leadership role again, but rarely got beyond mediocrity. In 1994 Flensburg qualified for the newly created Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga. From this, the team rose due to the poor goal difference against Itzehoer SV . Against the champions, the amateurs of FC St. Pauli , the 08ers suffered heavy defeats with 8-0 at home and 7-0 away.

It was not until 2001 that they returned to the league as runner-up behind Husumer SV . After a turbulent season, the team was bottom of the table and only remained in the league because of the withdrawals of 1. SC Norderstedt , Eichholzer SV , FC Kilia Kiel and TSV Lägerdorf . Reinforced with the ex-Bundesliga player Bodo Schmidt , the club sought a better role and, after the descent of TSB, took over the role of number one in the city. Talks about a merger with local rivals TSB and DGF Flensborg failed. In 2004, the 08ers missed the single-track Oberliga Nord, but could look forward to winning the Schleswig-Holstein indoor championship. Since then, the team has been competing in the Association League, which has been called the Schleswig-Holstein League since 2008.

In 2013, the club's management planned a merger with local rivals TSB Flensburg and ETSV Weiche under the name FSV Flensburg . The negotiations did not lead to the hoped-for merger, but there was cooperation in the youth sector. The A-Juniors were merged into the playing community Weiche / 08 and the B-Juniors in the playing community 08 / Weiche. In 2016 a new attempt was made to merge with the ETSV Weiche. On November 17, 2016, the members approved a merger effective July 1, 2017. The Flensburg 08 association was dissolved. The members joined the ETSV Weiche, which changed its name to SC Weiche Flensburg 08 .
