The Schleswig-Holstein state championship was the highest soccer competition in Schleswig-Holstein in 1946/47 ; In addition to determining the national champion, it also served as a qualifying competition to determine the Schleswig-Holstein representatives in the Oberliga Nord , which was newly introduced for the 1947/48 season, as well as the participants in the British football zone championship .

After the British military authorities only allowed top football leagues at city ​​or district level in their zone in the 1945/46 season after the Second World War , Schleswig-Holstein had already introduced an at least nationwide, single-track Schleswig-Holstein state league for the 1946/47 season. Holstein planned, which would have been first class in this period. Therefore, it was planned to carry out an additional qualifying competition for the regional league in three seasons in the 1945/46 season following the four district championships. Due to the preparations for a North German championship , these plans were given up again.

Instead, a state championship in several individual rounds took place in 1946/47 among 20 clubs previously qualified in the leagues for the district championships, which was initially played in the knockout system, in the finals among the last four clubs as group games ("everyone against everyone" twice) . A total of ten of the 20 clubs came from the two seasons of the east district, a total of four from the two seasons of the south district and three clubs each from the north and west districts.
