The Association League Schleswig-Holstein was held for the 53rd time in the 1999/2000 season and formed the substructure of the fourth-class Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga. Since the regional league was reduced to two seasons after the season, the first-placed team had to play promotion games against the winner of the Association League Hamburg. The teams in the last four places had to relegate to the national league.

Compared to the 1998/99 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: Eichholzer SV and TSV Lägerdorf were in the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga, while VfR Neumünster was relegated from the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein Oberliga. The three relegated members had left the association league and were promoted by the four promoted Holstein Kiel II ( promotion after one season), Eckernförder SV ( promotion after two years), FC Dornbreite (promotion after 20 years) and Oldenburger SV (for the first time in the highest amateur league in Schleswig -Holsteins).

Season course
The championship and participation in the promotion games secured the VfR Neumünster, which was then able to prevail against the winner of the Association League Hamburg , ASV Bergedorf 85 . The last four teams had to be relegated from the association league: Schleswig 06 after six years, FC Dornbreite after one season and SC Comet Kiel after four seasons. SV Ellerbek had withdrawn its team after the 16th match day and had to leave the association league after five years.
