The Schleswig-Holstein Association League was held for the 43rd time in the 1989/90 season and formed the substructure of the third-class Oberliga Nord. The two first-placed teams were allowed to take part in the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord. The teams in the last three places had to relegate to the national league.

Compared to the 1988/89 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: No team was promoted to the Oberliga Nord, while no team from Schleswig-Holstein was relegated from the Oberliga Nord. The three relegated members had left the association league and were replaced by the three promoted Rendsburger TSV ( promotion after one season), Flensburg 08 ( promotion after nine years) and SV Sereetz (for the first time in the highest amateur league in Schleswig-Holstein).

Season course

The championship and participation in the promotion round secured the VfB Lübeck. Eutin 08 was also allowed to take part in second place. While Lübeck finished his group in last place, Eutin reached second place in his group behind VfL Stade and rose. SV Sereetz had to leave the association league after one season, NTSV Strand 08 after two seasons and TSV Plön after ten years.
