Schleswig-Holstein State League 1948/49

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schleswig-Holstein regional league was played for the second time in the 1948/49 season and formed the substructure of the first-class Oberliga Nord until the 1962/63 season . After the national league was played in three seasons the year before, it started this season with twelve teams. The master had the right to participate in the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord together with five other north German clubs. The two clubs in the last places had to go to the third-class district league.

Season course

Already in the final table of the first half of the season it became apparent that the fight for promotion between Itzehoer SV and Eutin 08 would be decided. On the 16th of 22 match days, the Ostholsteiners initially seemed to be able to decide the race for themselves: while Eutin 08 landed a 9-1 victory over TSV Brunsbüttelkoog, the ISV had to admit defeat to PSV Kiel, which was in danger of relegation. But just one game day later, the Eutinians messed up again and gave up first place. On the 21st match day, the two promotion favorites met again and parted 1: 1. If the Eutinians had won this game, both clubs would have been tied on the last match day; however, on the last day of the match, the ISV was almost certainly qualified for the promotion round. While TSV Brunsbüttelkoog was practically relegated on the last day of the match, the race to stay in the league between VfL Flensburg and Flensburg 08 was decided. Despite a victory over runner-up Eutin 08, VfL Flensburg had to relegate at the end.

In addition, the board of the Schleswig-Holstein Football Association decided at the end of the season not to allow contract players in the state league.
