The Schleswig-Holstein regional league was held for the 22nd time in the 1968/69 season and formed the substructure of the second-class Regionalliga Nord until the 1973/74 season. Before the season, it had been renamed from Amateur League . The two first-placed teams were allowed to take part in the promotion round to the second-class Regionalliga Nord, the teams in the last two places had to relegate to the association league.

Compared to the 1967/68 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: The Heider SV was up in the Regionalliga Nord, while no team from Schleswig-Holstein was relegated from the Regionalliga Nord. The two relegated police SV Kiel and TSV Kücknitz had left the regional league and were replaced by the three newly promoted BSC Brunsbüttelkoog , Eichholzer SV and Rendsburger TSV , who played in the top division of Schleswig-Holstein for the first time.

Season course

The championship and thus participation in the promotion round secured the SV Friedrichsort. VfB Kiel was also allowed to take part in second place. Both missed promotion to the Regionalliga Nord. The Itzehoer SV amateur team had to leave the national league after two seasons, TSV Lägerdorf after seven seasons and the Holstein Kiel amateur team after five seasons.

VfL Oldesloe qualified third for the German amateur championship in 1969 . There he was eliminated in the round of 16 after drawing lots against Phönix Bellheim .
