The Schleswig-Holstein Association League was held for the 34th time in the 1980/81 season and formed the substructure of the third-class Oberliga Nord. The two first-placed teams were allowed to take part in the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord. The teams in the last three places had to relegate to the national league.

Compared to the 1978/79 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: No team was promoted to the Oberliga Nord, while no team from Schleswig-Holstein was relegated from the Oberliga Nord. The two relegated members had left the association league and were replaced by the two promoted Itzehoer SV II ( promotion after six years) and TSV Plön (for the first time in the highest amateur league in Schleswig-Holstein).

Season course

Eutin 08 secured the championship and participation in the promotion round. Heider SV was also allowed to take part in second place. Both could not prevail in their groups and had to admit defeat to TSV Havelse and SV Lurup . The second team of Itzehoer SV had to leave the association league after one season, VfL Bad Schwartau and Büdelsdorfer TSV after two seasons.
