The Schleswig-Holstein regional league was held for the 23rd time in the 1969/70 season and formed the substructure of the second-rate Regionalliga Nord until the 1973/74 season. The two first-placed teams were allowed to take part in the promotion round to the second-class Regionalliga Nord, the teams in the last two places had to relegate to the association league.

Compared to the 1968/69 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: No team was in the Regionalliga Nord, while Heider SV was relegated from the Regionalliga Nord after one season. The three relegated Itzehoer SV Amateurs, TSV Lägerdorf and Holstein Kiel Amateurs had left the state league and were replaced by the two promoted TSV Westerland and TSV Heiligenstedten , who played in Schleswig-Holstein's highest league for the first time.

Season course

The championship and thus participation in the promotion round secured the SV Friedrichsort. Heider SV was also allowed to take part in second place. Heide achieved promotion to the Regionalliga Nord. Holstein Segeberg had to leave the regional league after three seasons, TSV Heiligenstedten after one season.

BSC Brunsbüttelkoog qualified third for the German amateur championship in 1970 . There he first prevailed against Union Böckingen and was eliminated in the quarter-finals against FV Eppelborn .
