The amateur league Schleswig-Holstein was held for the twelfth time in the 1958/59 season and formed the foundation of the first-class Oberliga Nord until the 1962/63 season. The two first-placed teams were allowed to participate in the promotion round to the first-class Oberliga Nord, the teams in the three places had to relegate to the 2nd amateur league.

Compared to the 1957/58 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: No team was promoted to the Oberliga Nord, while VfB Lübeck was relegated from the Oberliga Nord after a year. The four relegated TSV Kücknitz (after three years), Büdelsdorfer TSV (after one year), Gut-Heil Neumünster (after five years) and TSV Brunsbüttelkoog (after eight years) had left the amateur league and were promoted by the three promoted Olympia Neumünster (return after five years), VfL Oldesloe and Rot-Weiß Moisling (both in the amateur league for the first time) replaced.

The ATSV Lübeck was renamed TuS Lübeck 93 .

Season course

As in the previous year, Heider SV secured the championship and thus participation in the promotion round. VfB Lübeck was also allowed to take part in second place. Lübeck achieved promotion to the Oberliga Nord. Since no team from the Oberliga Nord was relegated, only two teams from the amateur league had to be relegated.
